Elizabeth Conway

Independent Specialty Judge
Thursday, Sept 15, 2022

My professional career for 28 years was in insurance sales. Not only did I get to retire at 55, but it offered me the flexibility to go to dog shows. I live with my partner Donna and we've been together for 50 years. We have 2 grandchildren that we adore, but I can honestly say breeding and raising dogs is a lot easier!

The 1st time I saw an Otterhound was in Mouat's book "How to Raise and Train an Otter Hound (not a typo, the breed name used to be 2 words). I never knew there "was such a thing" and I had Bloodhounds!    A few years later I saw an OH in person at Westminster He was owned by Jan Farinon, Rinjan Kennels. Rushing up to her I said, "I have to have one of these!" That happened in 1983 when we rescued "Abraham" (Ch Greyfield's One Way Ryder bred by Karen Otto). He was a handful! I remember thinking I'll NEVER own another one of these! Ha! A few months later we found out there was a club dedicated to Otterhounds. Naturally, we joined. During our (approx. 37 yrs) membership we shared things that other (not OH) breeders did, such as "theme" litters, and puppy feeding trays. We also suggested that the OHCA consider starting a formalized Rescue Program and later, a Repro Bank. I attended my 1st National Specialty in 1984 and continued going annually for the next 25 years. Also, our dog showing in Louisville each March got other members interested in participating, thus it became a Regional Specialty.

In 1989 we bred our 1st litter under the prefix "Scentasia". It was HARD work! We didn't learn our "lesson" and went on to breed total of 14 litters totaling 107 puppies. 49 became AKC CH's and 15 of them garnered additional AKC titles/awards.   When you place the right dog with the right people wonderful things can happen. I am honored to say I bred and/or co-owned the top winning BIS/BISS dog AND bitch in Otterhounds. That record still stands today

Dr. Camille AcArdle

National Specialty Judge
Saturday, Sept 17, 2022

Although I grew up with Sporting dogs, my entry into the conformation world was with a Bloodhound purchased 33 years ago. This led to a seven-generation breeding program which produced several dozen owner-handled champions, most of them nationally ranked. My favorite show experiences were breeder-owner handling two dogs, a father and his son, to National Specialty Best of Winners awards. But I feel that my biggest success has been in placing healthy, sound, good-natured hounds with a lot of families and in search and rescue work.

My first steps toward judging were taken about 15 years ago. In 2017 I was approved by the AKC for the entire Hound group. I have since added a number of breeds from the Sporting and Working groups.

Professionally, I am a veterinarian who has worked in horse racing regulation, private companion-animal practice, teaching & writing, and recently retired as Medical Director with Minneapolis Animal Care & Control. Last year I was appointed by Governor Tim Walz to a position as Chair of the Minnesota Racing Commission.

I served four terms as President of the American Bloodhound Club and I presently serve as the Judges Education Coordinator for the Club. As JEC, I try to convey, as best as I can, the conformation required of this breed to do the job for which it was developed. When judging other breeds, I strongly adhere to that same principle: that the original function of a breed should be paramount in evaluating and selecting dogs to be rewarded in the ring.

Erika Wyatt

National Specialty Sweepstakes Judge
Saturday, Sept 17, 2022

Erika Wyatt serves as the vice president, AKC delegate and judges education chair for the American Sloughi Association. Her nearly 30-year passion for this rare Sighthound has led her and husband, Andrew Wyatt,  to travel throughout Morocco to obtain authentic breeding stock from traditional North African breeders.  Under the affix of Ocerico Sloughis, she  has bred or owned the first AKC champion, grand champion, Reserve Best in Show winner, group winner, and NOHS Best in Show winners in the
breed.

Erika is a principal and the CFO of the International Kennel Club of Chicago, the Secretary of the Northeastern Illinois Kennel Club, a director of the Chicagoland Hound Association, the judges education coordinator of the highly successful judges education series at the Windy City Cluster, and a member of Morris & Essex Kennel Club.
